Cllr Moreetsi Desmond Jabanyane was appointed the new Executive Mayor of Mafikeng Local Municipality on the 4th February 2010 in a special council sitting at the municipal Council Chambers. Prior to his appointment as the Executive Mayor of Mafikeng Local Municipality, Cllr Jabanyane was appointed the Council Whip for Mafikeng Local Municipality from 2006 till 03 February 2010.
Mafikeng Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Moreetsi Desmond Jabanyane was born on 13 October 1971 in Mafikeng, he completed his matric in Barolong High School in 1991 and went on to study the Degree in LLB at the University of North West (Mafikeng
Cllr. Jabanyane’s dedication to serving the African National Congress (ANC) intensified when he was appointed as the chairperson of the ANC Youth League (Tlhabologo Branch) from 1992-1994, then he became the BEC Member of the ANC from 2001-2005. He later went on to be the Branch Secretary from 2006-2007.
Cllr. Jabanyane has a diverse political background in 2000 he was appointed the Secretary for South African Communist Party until 2006. In 2007 he was then elected as a District Executive Committee Member for South African Communist Party.
Apart from his political background, Cllr. Jabanyane has also volunteered to work as Research and Legal Advisor for the Policy Maker of the Progress Association of Co-operative (PRASCO) from 2001 to 2002.
